OOTD: The One

Hi you!

In honor of Valentine's Day this week, I thought I'd share with you that I recently found the one. No...unfortunately I'm not talking about the perfect man, but rather possibly my favorite dress ever (hashtag fashionista problems!) But really, the second I laid eyes on this dress  I knew it had to be mine. It features three of my favorite design elements: polka dots, floral, and teal—yes, please!

I ordered it online (from asos, my new favorite place to shop ever), which is always a little risky in terms of finding the right fit. But when it came in, it fit like a glove, reassuring my strong suspicion that we weren't meant to be together.

Do you have a favorite dress? Will you  be wearing it for Valentine's this year? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for reading,
have a lovely day!

Music Monday: Snow Day

Hi you!

Here in New York, and all along the east coast we have been experiencing frigid cold weather, and not just during winter storm Nemo, either! When it's snowy outside, there's no better feeling than burrowing under the covers with a cup of cocoa and a playlist of your favorite soft, snowy day tunes. Plus, snow days are the perfect excuse to stay in your PJs all day, watching romantic comedies and not doing anything of importance—blissful! Here are my 10 Music Monday tracks for the perfect slowed down snow day playlist.

1.) You and Me- Penny & The Quarters: I first heard this song in the beautiful film Blue Valentine and quickly became obsessed with it. I love it's bluesy, vintage feel and sweet, simple lyrics!

2.) Re: Stacks - Bon Iver: I'm pretty sure there's never been a better rainy/snowy/cloudy day album made than Bon Iver's "For Emma, Forever Ago." But since I can't put every single song on here, I'll settle on this painfully gorgeous lullaby.

3.) I Can't Make You Love Me (Live)- Adele: Adele's baby has to be the luckiest kid in the world to get sung to sleep every night like that. Adele's cover of one of the most iconic ballads is pitch perfect in every way.

4.) Michigan- The Milk Carton Kids: This is the perfect song for gazing out the window at the falling snow and contemplating life and all of it's mysteries—and it's incredibly soothing.

5.) Gold- Once (Original Broadway Cast Recording): I managed to sneak some Broadway onto this playlist, but it isn't hard since Once's album is jam packed with sweet, slow, simple ballads perfect for snowy days.

6.) Lullaby- Sia: I love Sia and this is one of her rare calming ballads. This song is perfect for a quiet, peaceful jam session.

7.) Somedays- Regina Spektor: This song is insanely beautiful and shows what a fantastic musician and songwriter Regina Spektor is—I love her so! Her music is chock-full of feeling and this song is no exception.

8.) Jolene- Ray LaMontagne: This (along with the next one) is one of my favorite songs of all time and started me on my borderline-unhealthy obsession with LaMontagne. Incredibly touching and definitely curl-up-in-bed material.

9.) Rivers and Roads- The Head and the Heart: Another one of my favorite songs of all time by one of my favorite bands. All of The Head and the Heart's songs are insanely beautiful and passionate, and this one has always been particularly poignant for me. And seriously, just watch this video of them killing this song in a concrete tunnel—wowza.

10.) More Than Anyone (Stripped Version)- Gavin DeGraw: Though sometimes Gavin DeGraw can do some very bubble-gum sounding pop, he also has the ability to blow me away, like on this acoustic version of his song from the Stripped version of his album, Chariot. His voice is gorgeous on it and he can sing me ballads any day!

What are your favorite snowy day songs? I'd love some recommendations; let me know in the comments!

Thanks for reading,
have a lovely and relaxing day!

Fab or Drab: Grammy Awards

The Grammys take place every year during that awkward gap between the big celebrity fashion events of the award show season: The Golden Globes and The Oscars. Because of this, every year the Grammys can promise a plethora of odd, overly casual, and often plainly boring fashion choices. However, there are always a few stand-out hits and misses on the red carpet. Here are the most Fab and Drab looks of this year's show.

Fab!: Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra: This was my favorite dress of the night—classic, elegant, sexy, and perfectly-fitted. Many of the ladies on this year's red carpet tried to cleverly evade the new Grammys "dress code" that was put in place this year to encourage modesty in the celebs, and Kelly was no different in this craftily cut-out stunner.
Drab: Lisa D'Amato, the winner of America's Next Top Model: All-Stars (I had to google her!) had the most cringe-worthy dress of the night. The whole thing, from the different stripes, to the odd, billowy pirate sleeves, to her '80s earrings and 'do is just a big mess.

Fab!: Alexa Chung in Valentino: The Grammys definitely tend to be a much more casual affair than the other awards shows of the season, and I think Alexa struck the perfect balance between casual and couture here. That dress is gorgeous (gimme, please!) and she dresses it up with just the right amount of sparkle on her feet—not to mention, I'm a sucker for a bright red lip!

Drab: Adele in Valentino: I love me some Adele so it kills me to put her on the Drab list, but this dress just didn't do it for me. While I love the bright floral grandma's-couch material, the shape was incredibly unflattering and puffed out from her body like she was wearing a hoop skirt. I also thought the matching floral print heels were just too much with that busy of a dress. Sorry, girl!

Fab!: Taylor Swift in J. Mendel: While T-Swift's circus-themed opening act was one of the night's most perplexing performances, the singer looked gorgeous in this ultra-femme greek goddess-esque dress. The T down the center makes for an interesting, unexpected cut and it was a refreshing relief from the tons of black on the red carpet this year.
Drab: Esperanza Spalding: The jazz songstress hit a sour note in this ensemble. Honesly, with the right shoes and sans the matching jacket/cape thing I think I might have liked this dress, however the oddly-shaped jacket made for way too much of that very bold pattern and it looks like she's wearing some clunkers down on her feet—definitely not award show-worthy footwear!

Fab!: Carrie Underwood in Roberto Cavalli: Carrie proved that less is sometimes more in this understated but gorgeous vintage-looking gown. The beading and lace made for one of the prettiest, most clasically elegant dresses of the night and she stunned with that big diamond necklace and her pearly smile.
Drab: Kimbra in Jaime Lee: In another world, where Kimbra's dress scaled down the tulle everywhere and simply fell down into a classic fishtail, I think I could've loved this dress, with the pretty beading and the illusion of complete sheer-ness. However, the tulle exploding off of the dress from all angles made it one of the biggest messes of the night.

Fab!: Solange Knowles in Ralph & Russo: Solange's green column dress fit her like a glove and the choice of neon pink pumps was bold, but worked! The shoes were a perfect addition to the simple stunner, and though I'd probably give her a necklace to break up that high neck, I love that her fabulous hair acts as an accessory on it's own.

Drab: Jennifer Lopez in Anthony Vaccarello: I, for one, loved Angelina Jolie's famous leggy Oscars dress last year, but this was a whole other story. Unlike Angelina, J-Lo's dress doesn't look classy, but rather, trashy, and looks to be made out of some kind of clingy material. This dress seemed to me like a bit of a publicity stunt, and hey, it worked!

What do you think of my choices for the Fab and Drab dress of the 2013 Grammys? Did you have another favorite, how about a least favorite? Let me know in the comments!

Have a lovely day!

OOTD: Tights Season

 Hi you!
I can't wait for fall every year because I love tights season! Although I rip them constantly, I wait all summer to be able to slip into my snugly tights and live in them until the spring. I took these pictures a couple of weeks ago when it was still a bit warmer outside so I could go around with bare arms during the day and a light jacket in the evening.
I saw this dress on asos the other day and since I go crazy for polka dots I knew I needed it. It's very comfy and features a pretty crossed crochet back. I paired it with some simple accessories and bold pink flats for a little bit of color.
